By the Grace of God, the Central and Western District (CWD) Community Program of Social Enterprise Summit (SES) 2021: Social Innovation at Market Exchange – New ROI (Return on Inclusion) could be proceeded as schedule on Oct 11 in Oasis, the courtyard without cover located in Central Market, incredibly in between two severe typhoons (hoisted no.8) before and after this event in HK!

I’m honoured to be the chair of this CWD Community Program. We aim to establish ESG/ROI Task Force to broaden the conventional investment spectrum to New ROI (Return on Inclusion) exemplified by the highly diverse and inclusive organisations and collaborate with commercial sector especially listed companies to foster “ESG inclusion investment”.

Great thanks to our officiating guests, the Honourable Bernard Charnwut Chan (Convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council, HKSAR), Mr Ricky Chu (Chairperson of Equal Opportunity Commission), Dr Jane Lee (Chairperson of SIE Fund), Ms Rebecca Choy (Chair of SES2021) as well as other keynote speakers, performers, likeminded fellows from listed companies, chambers of commerce, banks, fund managers, foundations, universities, social and technology innovators and community leaders to facilitate creating shared values to tackle the issues of environment, social and governance (ESG) from the perspective of an inclusive smart city.

In that evening, we have revealed how “inclusion investment” has been turning disadvantaged groups from being deemed as social burden to human capital/asset in Hong Kong. It showed case the contribution of people of difference with boundless talent and leadership in the following areas:

• Sustainability and Climate Change
• Assistive Technology for Everybody
• Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship to Alleviate Poverty
• Social Governance – Diversity and Inclusion Index
• Artists and Elite Athletes – Paralympics, ADHD International Magician, Inclusive Chinese Orchestra, Wheelchair Dancers and Artists with Disability.

We have received overwhelming response especially the inspiring impact of Curb-cut Effect, “when we design for disabilities, we make things better for everyone” and the encouragement to promote collaborations continuously with this unique theme of ROI – Return on Inclusion.
